Tan Soon Kiat, (Reg No. R1103040) Managing Consultant founded eXecSearch in 2009, has more than 26 years of experience in the Information Technology industry. He started his career in 1980 as a civil engineer, having returned from New Zealand under the Colombo Plan Scholarship. After working for several years as an engineer and a system manager in a government ministry, he joined IBM and was with the company for 11 years in various regional positions.
Following, he joined a local IBM system integrator as a partner. The company was subsequently listed in the Singapore Stock Exchange. During the stay there, Soon Kiat was also the COO of an incubator in the MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) aviation space providing application services. It started with 3 and grew to a staff strength of 60 in 2 years with offices in Singapore and Shenzhen. The company won numerous bids where large IT MNCs also participated. Temasek Holdings, through one of its investment vehicles, invested in the company and subsequently became the major shareholder.
Taking a break from commercial life, he did a ‘second National Service’ and joined Community Chest (part of National Council of Social Services). Community Chest is a charitable umbrella fund raising body, raising about $50m for voluntary welfare organisations in Singapore. He helped in the marketing, strategic planning and branding of the Community Chest for about 2 years after which he returned to the commercial sector and joined the executive search industry.
He was with a boutique search company specializing in IT and Technology and also covered positions in HR, Legal and Finance for several years before setting up eXecSearch.
He holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours 1st Class) from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, a MSc in Engineering from National University of Singapore and a MBA from the Strathclyde Business School, UK.
